For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis the manufacturer recommends that you do not take more than 2.5 milligrams per kilogram per day.Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often without your doctor's approval. Your condition will not improve any faster and the risk of serious side effects may be increased. The guidelines were published and disseminated to Quebec doctors and pharmacists in January 2005 due to worries about the overuse of antibiotics and partly as a response to an outbreak of Clostridium difficile infections. Antibiotic consumption per capita was already 23.3 per cent higher in Canada generally than in Quebec in 2004, the study showed. But in the year that followed publication of the guidelines, the number of outpatient antibiotic prescriptions in Quebec decreased 4.2 per cent, the study said, while increasing 6.5 per cent in other Canadian provinces. The trend persisted three years later.
